When to use this guide
Use this to look up an organisation and see who funded them, and what for.
What you’ll get
You’ll be able to see who funded an organisation and what they funded them for. You can explore, sort, or download the full list of grants.
You’ll need
- The name of a recipient organisation
Example: “42nd Street”
Tip: Interpreting your results
Search results are based on data published using the 360Giving Standard. Results may vary depending on what data has been published.
Check:
- The number of grants
- The total funding amount
- The date range
- The names and number of funders and recipient orgs
This helps you understand how broad or focused your results are, and what kind of activities they relate to.
Steps
1. Open Grants search
On the GrantNav homepage, select Grants search to open a search results page.

2. Search for a recipient
Enter an organisation name into the search bar.
Select the Recipients, then select Search.
Tip: Use quotation marks to search for the whole phrase. Without them, a search for 42nd Street may show results with only “42nd” or only “Street.”

3. Check the search summary
Check the Search summary section.
If you see more than one organisation, it might be because different organisations have similar names, or because the same organisation is listed more than once. Pick the one that looks right. If you’re not sure, check each one – grants might be split between them.

5. View the recipient organisation page
In any grant record, select the Recipient.

This opens the recipient organisation page.
You’ll see a summary of grants and a table of funders you can search, sort, or download.

Select Show additional data to see extra details – for example, when the organisation was registered and their latest income from the Charity Commission.

6. Return to the grant list
Use your browser’s back button to return to the full list of grants.
The Recipient Organisation filter will still be applied, along with all Recipient Organisations you’ve selected.
7. Download your results
To export a spreadsheet of your results, select Download as CSV.
You can use Microsoft Excel or a similar program to filter, sort, and analyse further, including:
- Identifying top funders or recipients
- The number of grants awarded
- The value of those grants
Use the Custom CSV option if you want to choose which columns to include in your download.

8. Visualise your results
Select Visualise your search results in GrantVis.
This opens an interactive summary showing:
- Which funders are most active on this topic
- Typical grant sizes
Where recipients are based (if location data is available)
