Find funders of specific organisations

When to use this guide

Use this to see who has funded a specific organisation.

What you’ll get

You’ll be able to see which funders have awarded a grant to that organisation, and use the results to spot funders that may be relevant to your work too.

You’ll need

  • The name of an organisation that does work similar to yours.
    Example: 42nd Street
  • (Optional) A date range
Example: April 2023 to March 2025

Tip: Interpreting your results

Search results are based on data published using the 360Giving Standard. Results may vary depending on what data has been published.

Check:

  • The number of grants
  • The total funding amount
  • The date range
  • The names and number of funders and recipient orgs

This helps you understand how broad or focused your results are, and what kind of activities they relate to.

Steps

On the GrantNav homepage, select Grants search to open a search results page.

2. Search for a recipient

Enter an organisation name into the search bar.

Select Recipients, then select Search.

Tip: Use quotation marks to search for the whole phrase. Without them, a search for 42nd Street may show results with only “42nd” or only “Street.”

3. Check the search summary

Check the Search summary section.

If you see more than one organisation, it might be because different organisations have similar names, or because the same organisation is listed more than once. Pick the one that looks right. If you’re not sure, check each one – the grants might be split between them. You can do this in the next step by selecting an organisation to explore.

Tip: Find out why you might see multiple results for the same organisation.

a. Filter by date

To find grants in a particular date range, use the Award Date filter.

You can:

  • Enter a From date to see grants from that month and year onwards
    Example: April 2023
  • Enter a To date to see grants up to that date
    Example: March 2025
  • Enter both a From date and To date for a specific range
  • Or select one or more calendar years

5. Select the organisation you want to explore

In the Recipient Filter, open Recipient Organisations.

Open the list by selecting the search box.

Select the organisation you want to focus on.

The results update to show only grants given to that organisation.

Tip: If you think there may be more than one result for the same organisation, you can select multiple organisations.

Find out why you might see multiple results for the same organisation.

6. View the recipient organisation page

In any grant record, select the Recipient

This opens the recipient organisation page.

You’ll see a list of grants they’ve received, and a list of funders you can search and sort.

7. Return to the grant list

Use your browser’s back button to return to the full list of grants.

The Recipient Organisation filter will still be applied, along with all Recipient Organisations you’ve selected.

You can also review the list of funders in the Funding Organisations filter.

8. Download your results

To export a spreadsheet of your results, select Download as CSV

You can use Excel or a similar program to filter, sort, and analyse further, including:

  • Identifying top funders or recipients
  • The number of grants awarded
  • The value of those grants

Use the Custom CSV option if you want to choose which columns to include in your download.

9. Visualise your results

Select Visualise your search results in GrantVis.

This opens an interactive summary where you can explore:

  • Key funders, sorted by number of grants
  • Types of funders and recipients
  • Typical grant amounts
  • Recipient locations, where available
